Adria Moreno Sala from Girona (Catalonia) was on the podium for the second week in a row for Raleigh GAC Pro Cycling after finishing third in the Tour of Reservoir (Northumberland, England).

Adria made the selection on Saturday in a small group that finished three minutes ahead of the rest of the race putting him in a great position ahead of an even hillier stage 2 on the Sunday.

The rider from Girona was 4th overall after the first day and had high hopes of improving on that on the Sunday where the race would climb the notorious Horseshoe Pass three times just outside of Blanchland, a climb of several miles long through the exposed moorland where the wind was blowing very strong indeed.

The day started great for the team with Albert Torres getting in the break and with one of the teams, JLT Condor, having crashed out of the move, it was they who had to control the peloton and the chase whilst Adria was protected from the wind by his teammates.

For hour after hour, the gap to the break with Torres was kept under control by JLT Condor and it wasn’t until the final lap that the control was broken and the race to the finish became a free for all as the teams in contention for the overall made their moves.

With the leading riders all on the same time, and no time bonuses on offer, riders wanting to win the race only had to get a gap of a second or more to clinch a spot on the podium. In the end, it was a young rider from Pedal Heaven, Joe Fry who did just that but Adria was in the mix as well.

He crossed the line 8th, ahead of the overnight race leader, and so moved up one position to third overall.

Team boss Cherie Pridham was pleased with the team’s performance saying “it is great to see Adrià step up this year. He’s learning fast every week and the Tour of Reservoir was another indication of his form and how the team worked together as a unit”.

“It was the first weekend we had all our riders available including those who had raced the track during the winter like Torres, Kniesky and Mora. We are now looking forward to our next races in what is a very busy race schedule”

Adria: “It was a good result for the team and me because it is another podium. All the stage I was very protected by my teammates who did a really good job. Having Albert in the break was good for us and then in the last laps, my teammates help keep me in a good position at the front.”

“It was a crazy sprint for the final last kilometre and Sebastian did a really good job to put me in the front and I was with the leader on the overall. Then it was full gas up the final climb”.

Next race for the team is the 2016 CiCLE Classic at Melton Mowbray , a UCI 1.2 event where the team is only allowed six riders. That line-up will be announced soon on the team’s social media.
