The women’s Fusion Racing Team announces 2016 roster with new headline sponsor Fierlan
Team News – New Sponsor for Fusion RT
TEAM PRESS RELEASE
After a very successful season in 2015, with team wins in the international Ras na mBan (Ireland) and the Bedford 3 Day Race as part of the Women’s Team Series, Fusion RT is pleased to announce a talented 2016 women’s roster and new headline sponsor Fierlan ready to embark on the upcoming racing season.
During the 2015 season, the women of Fusion RT showed strength and tactical skill winning both podium places and Team prizes.
Manager Terry Williamson reflected on the season “Looking back at last year I see how Fusion RT have grown from strength to strength. They have worked incredibly hard and the results seen are down to a superb team effort by everyone. Winning the Team Prize at Ras na mBan is indicative of how the team works well together and was an absolutely great way to finish the season”.
“I am immensely proud of the team and am looking forward to the 2016 season.â€
Many core riders return to ride for Fusion RT, such as team captain Jenny Hudson who joined the squad in 2015 producing top 15 places for the team and Eleanor Campbell, now in her third year with Fusion, who made an outstanding contribution to the team competition in Ireland last year and returns this season. Sophie Faulkner, a team member for the past three seasons, who quickly made her mark with her maturity and ability to read a race, also returns for another year.
We welcome back exceptional time trialist Elizabeth Malins after a year off in 2015 to have her first child and Elizabeth Stedman continues with Fusion RT Fierlan, after joining the team last year following her excellent finish in a very tough stage of The Holme Valley 2-day, achieving great results for the team finishing 10th in stage three at the Ras na Mban last year and 4th at Oakley RR.
The team welcomes four new riders for the 2016 season: Ashleigh Fraser, Angela Hibbs, Fiona Hunter-Johnson and Jenny Holden.
19 year old Ashleigh Fraser from Scotland wants to face the challenge of National Series races and joins the team following a season where she gained 1st in both the Salley Anne Low Memorial RR and the MFCC Womens Road Race.
After meeting Angela Hibbs at the Ras na Mban 5 day International Stage Race in 2015, where she achieved 8th place on GC, it was a mutual objective that Angela join the team for the 2016 season.
Fiona Hunter-Johnston came into road racing last year by riding the Team Series with ONIT Cycles finishing 10th at the Bedford 3 Day Stage 3 and attracted Fusion RT’s attention with her assertive attacking style and who will no doubt make a huge contribution to the team this year.
Lastly, Jenny Holden, following a season in Fusion’s development squad, joins the senior team after demonstrating great team work and competitive style winning 1st at Odd Down RR and 5th at Beeston RR.
2016 will also see a change of team name to Fusion RT Fierlan following the addition of a new headline sponsor by Fierlan. Fierlan manufacture flattering, high performance cycling clothes which are designed in the UK and constructed from the highest quality materials. Fierlan are determined to support the growth and success of women’s cycling.
Lucy Gardner, Director at Fierlan, says “When we were approached by Fusion RT with the possibility of a partnership we knew we had to make it happen. Sponsoring a trade team has always been on our dream list and we were thrilled to achieve this goal so quickly. The Fusion women are incredibly talented and dedicated to their team. We’re looking forward to utilising their racing expertise and experience to help us develop and evolve our women’s cycling collection and of course we love the possibility of seeing our kit on the podium!â€
