George Wood wins stage 2 of the Corley Cycles – Drops 3 Day stage race but a TTT win for Corley Cycles – Drops RT sees William Goulbourne in the leaders jersey

Day 2
The morning’s 50 mile road race went relatively without a hitch although the race was stopped briefly as there was some poor riding early on, but this was soon rectified. The pace was high from the start and after 7 laps, the first prime was won by George Wood (Richardsons Trek).

A few breaks formed in between but none stuck for longer than a lap. The second prime was taken by Will Goulbourne (Corley Cycles – Drops RT) outsprinting two Richardsons riders to claim the £20 and bottle of wine prize. The third prime was won by Tom Neale (Catford CC Equipe/Banks).

Coming into the finish, it was George Wood who managed to clip clear off the front of the very fast moving bunch. George won the stage and had exactly a second gap back to Lewis Atkins (Pedal Heaven) which put him into the Pink leader’s jersey. Will Goulbourne took third and the remaining bonus second to put him on equal time overall with Atkins.

The TTT proved tough, two laps of the same circuit the riders had just done 22 laps on. The first team on the circuit (Dream Composite) managed a time of 9:42 but only held onto the lead for mere moments before Richardsons-Trek posted a time of 9:23.

They then held onto the lead for only two minutes before Pedal Heaven crossed the line with a 9:19. This time would stay fastest on the course until the Corley Cycles – Drops RT A team went over the line in 9:15, a time that would see Goulbourne into the pink jersey for Sunday’s final stage.

The race finishes tomorrow on the testing Astwood Circuit.
