For three days on the May Day bank holiday, I was chasing pro cyclists around Yorkshire through corridors of people turning out in their hundreds of thousands to see the very first Tour of Yorkshire. It was my first race on a moto in an ASO race and as such as a learning experience dealing with regulators telling me when I could take photos (not as bad as I expected), lead cars far too big for a bike race and ruining many a picture and other motos sitting in awkward positions for seemingly no reason and making getting pictures which could have been so fabulous impossible.
That said, my pilot Adrian Elwood did a great job in getting me in positions to get images which will always be memorable. And the crowds. Yes, I’ve seen them before on Ride London and Tour of Britain so nothing new but this was a new race, in new cities for major stage races and that made the impact all the more spectacular.
