The CiCLE Classic, which runs from Rutland to Melton Mowbray, is based on the Belgian spring classics and includes off road sections along farm tracks and pothole strewn lanes. Team principal, Cherie Pridham, said: “The team once again turned out a really solid performance”.

“They stuck to the plan and rode aggressively.”Karol and Steve both got in the first really dangerous break and then we had Morgan out on his own for 20kms before two other riders joined him.”

As the break rode through the finish line to start the final lap through Melton it looked as though they would be able to hold off the peloton. However, the chasing bunch brought them back and the race was set up for the biggest sprint in its 11 year history.

Cherie said: “This race is all about luck and that really keeps you on your toes. In the final sector we had three of our riders, Steve, Evan and Sam, all puncture. “Ian did a great job of sprinting for fifth and Karol showed his strength again by taking the King of the Mountains jersey.”

Come Monday morning however and all thoughts turned to the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire. On Wednesday the team took a ride around the first stage which runs for 176kms from Bridlington to Scarborough.
