34 year-old House out-sprinted Team Raleigh’s Mark Christian at the end of the 180km race, which has been promoted to a UCI 1.2 ranked event for the first time in 2014. House had been one of the key members of Rapha Condor JLT’s Tour Series winning team, but thanks to hard work in training around the demanding program of criterium events, still had the legs to contest a one-day event.

“I’ve always worked pretty hard in training through the Tour Series with an eye on these events that come up right after it. With the National Road Race as well as a number of other one days over this next period it is really important to stay on it.”

“We had a really strong team here, with some of the guys like Rich (Handley) just back from Korea and with everyone working so well together this year we want to make every race count.” House praised his team mate Handley, who made a number of efforts to reduce the 25 rider lead group down to just 8 men by the last lap.

“At first with just Rich and I in that big front group we were a little isolated, but we both managed to bide our time and waited until we could make a smaller selection. When it split over the Ryals and we still had us both there I knew that we were in the best possible position.”

After a number of attacks House and Christian eventually pulled clear of the group on the run in to the finish, and pulled out a 30” gap before House easily outstripped his breakaway companion in the two up sprint for the line.

The team’s next event will be the National Road Race in Abergavenny this coming weekend, where Kristian House took a memorable win for the Men in Black in 2009.
