Ben Simmons (Team Wiggle) out sprinted Richard Phillips-Scofield by a narrow margin to win round six of the Ludgershall summer series held at the REME test track at the Wiltshire camp.

On a very pleasant evening there was a good turnout over all the races it remained dry and there was a tail wind up towards the finish line but it was full on the face down the back straight.

The elite race was 45mins and 3laps in distance and the first few laps saw loads of attacking as several different riders tried to get away. It took 25mins for the first attack to stick when Ben, Andy Shackel (Peter Hansford RT) and Alex Boyle (Army CU) eased of the front to be joined on the next lap by Mike Scott (Peter Hansford RT) and Mike Cripps (Banjo Cycles). As more riders jumped the gap it brought the bunch closer until the race regrouped.

The front of the race remained fluid until three laps to go when five riders got a few seconds lead. They in turn couldn’t hold it together and on the last lap it all split apart again and as they came into sight it was Ben and Richard neck and neck towards the line, with Ben holding out for the win.

The earlier 3rd 4th cat race took a while to establish but after 30mins of racing Alex Boyle (Army CU) looked odds on winner when the built up a large lead only to puncture with two laps to go and succumbed to chasing bunch. Ben Rowe (GS Henley) sprinted clear of David Blount (PM) with Dan Lewis (RAF) third.
