The Netherland’s Kirsten Wild conquered a third Ladies Tour of Qatar after triumphing on the final stage of the 5th edition.

Stage 4: Sealine Beach Resort – Doha Corniche, 86.5kms
80 riders at the start (Jasinska (MCG) and Knetemann (RBW), non starters). Sunny and windy
The 2009 and 2010 winner of the event powered to a third consecutive stage win on the Doha Corniche beating Brand and Tagliaferro in the final bunch sprint. In the overall standings, Wild beats Hosking and Van Dijk.
At the start this morning of the fourth and final stage of the Ladies Tour of Qatar, Kirsten Wild’s overall lead was only three seconds on Chloe Hosking. In other words a lot was still at stake. The 80 riders remaining in the race took off at 1:07 for an 86.5km ride all the way to the Doha Corniche where they would have to cover five laps of the traditional final circuit.
Facing the wind, the pack remained bunched until the first intermediate sprint in Al Wakra (km 38.5) won by Wild (SKI) ahead of Hosking (HPU) and Van Dijk (SLU). That gave the Dutch leader an extra bonus second on her main rival.
Just after the sprint, nine riders managed to break away: MacLean (GEW), Rowney, Small (both SLU), Guderzo (MCG), Brand (RBW), Longo Borghini (HPU), Valsecchi (BPK), Cordon (FRA), Olds and Glaesser (both TIB). Their lead grew to 1’10 at km 55 before dropping down once on the final circuit.
The second bonus sprint at the second crossing of the line (km 62.5) was claimed by Glaesser ahead of Cordon and Olds, while the pack remained 48†adrift. The front riders were eventually all caught with just over two laps to go. The peloton remained together all the way to the finish where a splendid sprint was to take place between the strongest riders.
Once again, like on the two previous stages, Kirsten Wild powered to victory, outsprinting Lucinda Brand (RBW) and Marta Tagliaferro (MCG). The Dutch rider captured her sixth success on Qatar soil and extended her margin of overall victory.
With that victory, Wild won her third Ladies Tour of Qatar after wins in 2009 and 2010 and shows that she really is the Queen of the event. Added to her Golden Jersey, Wild also wins the Points classification’s Silver Jersey while, like last year, Chloe Hosking finished best young rider.
