The sun shone and the wind dropped for the second Northants Cycle Racing Association Early Spring Handicaps Race 2Â over 3 laps of the 10 mile Sulby circuit.

Tim Smith of Welland Valley CC, favourably handicapped as a newcomer to road racing, rode well clear of his group in the first lap and led the field for the second and third laps to win by an impressive 3 minutes and 14seconds in 1.22.34.
His win was followed a bunch sprint of 34 riders, with Matt Garfield of Fenland Clarion CC leading them home. Next came Stephen Colbert of Renault Rotor Colbert RT, followed by Jonny Unwin and Stephen Bunn of Welland Valley CC, Joe Clarke of Fenland Clarion CC, Stuart Jones of Kettering CC, Sam Crabtree of Welland Valley CC, Mark Warren of Fenland Clarion CC, with Alex Burrage of Loughborough Students CC rounding off the top ten.
