A busy rider in 2024 at races after some horrendous crashes at the start of the season, Elliot recovered and was 7th in the Junior National Road Race championships and on the podium in other races. Elliot has progressed from the Junior into the Senior ranks (U23) for the 2025 season.

Q: How long have you been racing Elliot?
Elliot: This is my 3rd season. I played academy football for Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers until I was 15 years old when I moved across to cycling.

Q: What part of the country do you live in?
Elliot: I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire

Q: What result are you most proud of so far in your young racing career?
Elliot: I came 3rd on stage 3 in the Isle of Man National Series Road Race as a Youth A when I first started cycling which was a great achievement. I was 7th in the Junior National Champs in 2024 after having had a bad start to the season with two bad crashes earlier in the year so this was a great achievement.

Q: What were your racing highlights in 2024?
Elliot:
– 7th at the Junior National Champs
– 17th at the Beverley E/1/2 Grand Prix was great fun and I think I was the fastest Junior that day
– A few 3rd places such as at the Sloan Trophy and Prologue Summer Road Race
– 4th in the Kendal Road Race

Q: What race was the toughest in 2024?
Elliot: The toughest race was definitely Capenwray on Easter Sunday. It was my first race back following my crash in Majorca and I realised I wasn’t ready for that level. It was hard but also gave me a true understanding of where I needed to be.

Q: What were the biggest challenges for you in 2024?
Elliot: The start of the season was a disaster for me. I had a crash in January whilst out training then when I was just back to training, had a head on collision with a van in Majorca. I was very lucky to walk away with stitches down my leg but it took a long time to get back to strength. I missed three months of training.

Q: What race was the most fun to be at and race in during 2024?
Elliot: Beverley Grand Prix was great fun. There was a massive crowd, fabulous weather and I felt really strong and managed to hold my own with some of the best crit racers in the country.

Q: How is the training for you now – base work or structured efforts?
Elliot: Training is going really well. Loads of support from my coaches Josh Whitehead and Joe Cadwallader 360cycling. Plenty of base miles both in the UK and Spain. Joe is keen for us to spend time on the track to support our winter training. This is great fun and good opportunity for us to train as a team.

Q: When do you expect your season to start in 2025?
Elliot: I’m going out to Majorca with 360cycling in February and plan to get a couple of races in whilst we are there. The team plan to race in Germany and France at the start of the season so I’m looking forward to the chance to race abroad as an U23.

Q: What events in 2025 are the ones you are looking forward to most?
Elliot: I’m really excited for the Town Centre Crits and racing overseas.

Q: Are you expecting the racing to be tough as you go from the junior ranks to senior ones?
Elliot: As a second year Junior, you really feel the step up and I have been training with my second year Under 23 team mates so I feel ready for this year and look forward to the challenge.

Q: Are you working now?
Elliot: I work part time right now to give me the flexibility to train. My cycling is my main focus.

Q: Finally, are there key people who are helping you progress in the sport of cycling?
Elliot: Josh Whitehead is my coach and mentor. He races in France for Team Bricquebec Cotentin so he can support me in all aspects of my sport.
Joe Cadwallader is a great coach. He is very honest and tells me what I need to do to progress. As a team, we all look out for each other. It’s a great club to be part of and whilst I was injured and off the bike, they made sure I was OK. I have to mention and thank Peter Anderson who got me into this sport.
