Crit Result: Cumberland Cobbler 2024

Riders ranging from Youth Es pinning on a number for the first time to Elites took part in the Cumberland Cobbler races at Silloth this weekend. The weather was dry and sunny but a strong westerly wind created challenging riding conditions.
A ferocious head wind down to the final turn onto the cobbled sector certainly made the riders work hard. The Regional B race was dominated by local riders with seven out of the top 10 being Cumbrians. It was a 1-2 for the Wolf Cycles duo of Jossy Wright and Ed Hindmarsh with Ed Moss of Giant Kendal on the third step.

The National B riders set off at a brisk pace that was maintained for the hour, breaking the group up quickly. In the end it was victory for Cogset Papyrus’s Jake Edwards with another U23, John Bardsley of 360cycling in second. Matthew Webster of Loughborough Students CC rounded out the podium.

Unfortunately low numbers led to the cancellation of the Women’s race, but several of the female riders chose to ride in the Regional B. Lucy Glover, last year’s Women’s winner demonstrated her strength on the cobbles again coming home first woman and only narrowly missing the overall podium with a close 4th place. Corinne Side and Lily Brindle took home the remaining Women’s trophies.

Prizes were presented by double Olympic gold medallist Philip Hindes and the racing was part of a wider festival showcasing a variety of types of cycling
