Coronavirus Pandemic and the Championships

The organisation of the UCI 2020 Masters Track Cycling Championships has been ‘on hold’ since March and we advised that we would make a decision on their viability in July in the hope that the Coronavirus situation would improve sufficiently to open up the event to entries.

We have now carefully considered all the factors involved and come to the conclusion that although the pandemic situation is slowly improving and some sports facilities in the UK are slowly re-opening it would not be possible to adhere to the UK Government guidelines regarding social distancing and hygiene given the nature of the event.

There are many other issues to consider including international travel which would seriously affect the running of the event and with the support of British Cycling we have now advised the UCI that we wish to postpone the championships. This again presents problems as the 2021 and 2022 championships have already been allocated.

I am sorry to be the bearer of this sad news and thank everybody for their patience during these difficult times.

Ian Emmerson OBE, Championships Organisation
