News: SwiftCarbon Sixth UCI Team in UK
SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling has been revealed as the latest British UCI Continental Team for 2019, bringing the current total to six.
Team manager Paul Lamb tells us his teams goals for 2019 with most of the rider signings completed. “I am incredibly excited about this new venture. Over the last two years, with Team TM UK, we worked tirelessly to develop a sustainable and cost-effective team that can still compete at the highest level in the UK and beyond. In terms of value and ‘bang per buck’, we believe we delivered impressive results and performances, alongside a high level of quality promotion for our respected partners.
“Returning to the sport in 2016, my stated ambition was always to progress towards UCI Continental status. Two years later, I felt that the time was right to step up. Clearly, we are entering the fray at a fairly turbulent, transformational time, but we are ready for the big challenge ahead. My philosophy has always been to aim high, take risks and not to fear failure, otherwise what’s the point?”
“To me it’s just a shame that some significant teams and managers are not going to be around in 2019. I’m particularly going to miss John Herety who has been at the pinnacle of the sport for so many years and one of the most respected and supportive guys around. I genuinely hope to see him back in the near future.”
“During 2018, our positive approach led to many wins at National level and we were often the highest performing Elite team in Premier calendar events. We also rode strongly in UCI one day and stage races, winning the Queen stage of the Rás Tailteann (Tour of Ireland) and finishing 6th overall against some decent Pro Conti teams and riders. We also had a 15th place in the Queen Mountain stage of the Tour of Bihor (Romania), again up against several Pro Conti teams (the race was won by Androni’s Iván Sosa – Sky’s latest Colombian prodigy). “
“Our improving performances over the last two years have been the result of the rider’s and staff’s collective efforts combined with great team morale. I can’t thank enough all those who have ridden for the team and the group of amazing support staff. It has truly been a collective team effort.”
Madison Genesis rider Isaac Mundy joins the team for 2019
“All that said, this is a brand new team, with new responsible backers, additional talented riders and a fantastic bike brand. SwiftCarbon have been around for some years and we wanted to give them the opportunity to showcase their special, customisable bikes at the highest level in the UK. The bike may not yet be well known to the UK public, but it soon will be.”
“The bike was used by the Aussie Drapac team and indeed the UK NFTO team in 2014, and was showcased at the 2016 Rio Olympics with a Triathlon bronze medal. We will be riding on a combination of their Ultravox standard road and the Hypervox semi-aero team edition road bikes. Their Neutrogen TT bike will be showcased by Will Bjergfelt in GB colours at the 2019 Worlds in the UK and the Tokyo Olympics.

Our team aims for 2019 are quite simple: to give the maximum exposure to our partners whilst performing well in the biggest UK events and gaining more experience overseas. To do this, we’ve got our eyes set on qualification for the Tour of Britain and a possible invitation, on merit, into the Tour de Yorkshire.
Beyond that, we want to perform well in the top UK races and to build on previous success in UCI races. I want to give the riders the best platform possible to compete at the highest level, to showcase their abilities and to progress to the highest level.
Squad wise, we have put together a very honest group of talented, hard working riders. A few will be very familiar, having ridden already ridden at UCI level, whilst others are doing so for the first time, fully deserving their opportunity. A couple of guys have ridden on several Conti teams already and have tons of experience. For Tristan Robbins, former National Junior Champion, this will be his 3rd UCI Conti team and he’s still only 22. I see it as my role to restore their self belief and get these guys back to fulfilling their potential.
All in all we have a good blend of riders with varying specialities and with different levels of experience. Having young development riders alongside experienced guys is the right strategy in my opinion. I just want them to love what they are doing, go out and express themselves and ride smart but with no fear. If you ride like that, even if you don’t succeed, you still learn a hell of a lot.
