Interview: Marcin Bialoblocki

For over a year now, Marcin Bialoblocki has been making people sit up and take notice in the time trial world as he broke comp record after record and on Sunday, he rode his first 25 Championship and quite simply dominated the race with a winning margin of over two minutes.

Marcin on his way to a 44 at the 25 championships

Marcin for many many years has ridden for British pro teams and then moved on to a Polish one, CCC–Sprandi–Polkowice before returning home and instead of riding for a pro team in 2018, he has ridden instead for a small South West squad in road races (Steele Davis Via Roma) and for Nopinz in time trials.

And it is in time trials that a prolific winner of road race events in Britain over the last ten years, Marcin started his domination of time trials where a look at his results shows he’s won every one of the races he’s started and finished this season.

That includes the 100 mile championship (3.17) and recording a 1.30 for 50 miles (comp record) in recent weeks. In 10’s, where as a lot of riders get into the 17 minute territory, Marcin has ridden as quick as 16.35 in a Charity 10 this year (comp record) and in 25’s, he’s recorded a few 44 minute rides including the one to win the championship but a very special ’42’ (42.58) in May (Comp record).

I spoke to Marcin after his victory in the 25 championship and he started by saying it was fantastic to win this blue ribbon title. “It was a good day with good power, not the best but considering I only had five hours sleep yesterday after a few problems sorting equipment I am very pleased with the ride.”

Marcin gets his trophy from the great legend, Alf Engers

“The day wasn’t perfect for a fast time. I have one very slow roundabout with lots of traffic where I think I lost 15 seconds and friends say the conditions were not very good. I have friends who have 46’s on this course and today they did 48 so there is room for improvement for sure.”

Marcin told me life now in his cycling was different to how it has been over the last ten years riding as a professional. “I have more time for family now, much less travelling and less stress. I can choose the races I prefer to do and also the equipment I use and so I am very happy.”

Phil Griffths (The Bike Rooms) is great for me and he provides some great equipment and I have other sponsors as well like No Pinz and Harry at Revolver Wheels is a great guy. Ceramic Speed also help me and Steele Davies Via Roma team and also GoSelfDrive Drive (Mark Perry) providing a car.”

And whilst many may think he has retired from major league bike racing, Marcin still has some pretty big goals in the sport and so is still looking to ride even faster. His big goal is the Hour Record on the track. “This depends on me finding a sponsor for this because this requires a lot of preparation, track time and travelling and lots of things so will see”.

His next RTTC championship is the 10 championships at the start of September but his next major event is Wednesday of this week when he rides for Poland in the European championship and then hopefully get selected for the World championship as well.

Thank you to Marcin for the chat.
