Hillingdon Cycle Circuit News

Now that the ‘Summer’ season has started after welcoming so many riders at the Full Gas Winter Series and the Slipstreamer open Winter Youth Series, a very full programme of events will be running and we hope to see you involved. Listed on the BC and CTT websites, we cater for everyone, but perhaps it is intriguing that we are featuring criteriums with the biggest prize list and and the lowest prize list.

On 7 April there is well over £1,000 to be won at the 62nd Archer Spring Criterium which is unique on the BC programme in being for 1st and 2nd cat riders but not Elites. Apart from the Lincoln GP it is the oldest race in Britain and has been won by Olympic and World Champions on their way to the top.

On Sunday 8th June the managing User Group has two “Sans Prix” races, as they have in France, which are fund raising events for the London Air Ambulance but qualify for BC category rankings.. “It is a recognition of the fantastic support we get for cycle racing from the Ambulance Service at Hillingdon and all over London.” says Stuart Benstead, chairman of the User Group.

Both the Archer and Air Ambulance races are being organised by Tony Gibb’s Full Gas organisation, with him having his long career very much based at the circuit. On the Air Ambulance day the Hillingdon Slipstreamers children’s club are organising a ‘lapathlon’ for the rest of the family to get involved.

Good for the appetite, so the Minet Ladies CC will be on hand with home made cakes and refreshing drinks.

Then, as we get longer evenings, highlights of regular racing starts on 17 April (Tuesdays), then Vets racing on Wednesdays, alternating with Time Trials, coaching on Thursdays, Minet Ladies on Friday daytimes and the Slipstreamer open youth races on Mondays. West Drayton MBC get in first with their current series of Saturday events.

On future development, although planning permission for an outdoor velodrome a year ago, there has been no news from BC as to whether they will give support.
