EWCC’s Tour of Witheridge Moor Road Races

Over two laps of a tough 44km circuit E,1,2,3,4 category Women, and 3,4 category men raced in the inaugural ToWM in sunny, still conditions. The womens race was dominated by a race winning break as the peleton struggled to keep pace with 6 strong leaders, making an exciting finale to the Kalas South West Womens Cup. Won by Jenny Powell, from Steph Clayton and Emma Cockcroft. The race had an international flavour with Belgian rider Margriet Kloppenburg featuring in the race long breakaway.

The mens 3/4 race was much more controlled, although over the course of 50+ miles and a lot of climbing the group was significantly reduced. James Cartlidge sprinted ahead of rivals Mark Puddicombe and Exeter Wheelers James Maddison to take a well deserved win.

A big thanks must go out to all the NEG riders, Commisaires, Accredited Marshals who made sure the event ran safely and fairly. In addition to all of EWCC vollunteers who worked hard to get the first edition of the Tour of Witheridge Moor on the calendar. Witheridge was a great host, and unlike some areas there was a good degree of positive interest in the racing from locals, farmers and other non cycling visitors.  … continued after advert
