The British Under 23 National Road Race Champion who moved to the team on May 1st this year, has agreed a deal which will see her stay with the newly established British team into their second season.

“I am incredibly happy and very, very proud, that Alice has chosen to extend her time with us into 2017,” said Team Director, Bob Varney. “She is the brightest young talent in Britain and to have her continued support of our vision for the future means a lot to us all. Alice’s ambition mirrors ours so we feel it’s a match made in heaven.”

Barnes will be looking to build on her incredible 2016 season that included impressive performances both at a national and international level. At home she lead a Drops podium clean sweep at the Lincoln Grand Prix and showed her strength at London Nocturne as she rode away from the whole field to claim an impressive victory.

Alice combined these performances with racing at Women’s World Tour level as she impressively took 10th at Prudential Ride London Classique, 16th at Crescent Vargarda and finished 26th overall at the AVIVA Women’s Tour. She currently sits 6th in the Under 23 WWT rankings with the aim to increase her points tally at this weekend’s GP Plouay.

“I am really happy to stay with Drops Cycling Team for the 2017 season,” Barnes said. “The opportunities that I am given with a wide spread race programme of Women’s World Tour, UCI and national races is key for my development. I am proud to have been involved with such an up and coming team in their first year and I’m excited for another season of improvement for both myself and the team.”

As Drops look to expand on an already extensive race programme for next year, team management are thrilled that Barnes will be at the forefront of their plans. Team Director, Tom Varney added: “One of the aims of the team from the beginning was to build a platform where the best British talent can experience racing at all levels of UCI racing – Alice epitomises this.”

“Whether it’s Alice gaining the team’s first UCI WWT top ten, 34-year-old Laura Massey making her Team GB debut, or the team winning both Junior and Under 23 National Championships, we’ve achieved a lot that we can be proud of this year.”

With seven weeks of the 2016 season remaining Alice has her sights set on GP Plouay this weekend before heading to the Lotto Belgium Tour with Great Britain. After her trip to Belgium she’ll be hoping to be selected for the national team for the European and World Championships.
