Team Sky’s Alex Dowsett rode to a time of 46.35 on a quick but not superfast day in the Lea Valley CC 25 mile event.
“Yesterday I felt I could win anything so I was a bit worried today as I normally have to feel a bit tired to go well” Alex explained afterwards. Alex competed in full race mode on his Pinarello Time Trial bike on the course where he explained he never had to get off the tri bars, even at the turn on this road which is a triple carriageway. Alex explained there was a bit of crosswind on the day but with the road only rising a 100 metres or so, he never had to get out of the saddle during the effort which he powered through.
It was for Alex, the opportunity to go back to his roots in Time Trialling, the typical drag strip course that he doesn’t get to ride as a professional where the roads tend to be hilly and more technical. His time on the E2 also gave me a great qualifying time for the National 25 should he need it! The Lea Valley CC event on the E2 also fitted nicely into his training programme as he prepares to leave Britain next week for a five day stage race in Spain. “I don’t back off for these events” he says “but I know pinning a number on my back will help me get the effort all out.”
And it certainly beats riding the Turbo when the weather is as great as it was today.
The season goal for Alex is to make the Great Britain team for the Time Trial at the World Championships in Denmark. Prior to that, he’ll be a ‘worker’ for his ProTour team as well as getting opportunties to do time trials in stage races as he will next week in the Spanish race, the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon.
