There has been a change of venue for the 2024 RTTC Hill Climb Championships after the original choice for the championships, Prospect Hill sustained a landslide in Oct 2023 and the repairs cannot be guaranteed in time for the championships.

The promoting club says on their Facebook page, “As most of you will know, Prospect Hill sustained a landslide in Oct 2023. We have been in constant dialogue with the local authority and had hoped that the repairs would be completed in time for Nationals. Unfortunately we have come to a point where the completed works cannot be guaranteed in time. After consulting with CTT, we spent a lot of time looking at alternatives appreciating some of you have already made plans, booked accommodation, tailored training around the nationals course etc so we have attempted to plan an alternative similar to Prospect Hill and within the local area.

We are excited to announce that the 2024 National Hill Climb championships will take place on Dipton Mill Rd, Hexham ( 4 miles from Prospect Hill). Dipton Mill Rd is 1.2km @ 9.8%, topping out at 13.4%. A tough climb that changes gradient multiple times, with a kicker at the finish to catch you out.

Due to the nature of Dipton Mill Rd which is wider than Prospect as well as now having a larger Event HQ at Hexham Race Course, we have decided to increase the entry capacity from 320 to 370 riders. The entry criteria will stay the same however but an increase in capacity will hopefully give the majority of hill climbers a ride at nationals.

Muckle CC are holding an open event on Dipton Mill rd next week (Friday Aug 2nd) to give riders a chance to scout out the nationals course. We appreciate this is short notice but we have had to wait for the right permissions before making this decision public. Due to the short notice, we have extended the entry deadline for the open event till midnight, Sunday July 28th – entry via CTT.

We hope you’ll all support us with the change of course and understand the reasons behind the change. The new location opens opportunities to create an even better event and one that will hopefully be a memorable one for all. More info will be made available over the coming weeks so please give our socials a follow to keep up to date.

See you on the hill, Muckle Cycle Club
