On a warm and very windy day in North Yorkshire, Seb Grindley from the promoting team Fensham Howes – MAS Design and Abigail Miller (Tofauti Everyone Active) were the big winners of the CAMS Yorkshire Classic races on June 16. The days first event was for Junior/Under 23 Women and very quickly Abigail, on home roads, forced a group clear off the front and they stay away until the finish where Abigail used her awesome sprint to win the race from Ruby Oakes (Isle of Man) and Arabella Blackburn (Deeside, Scotland) both Shibden Apex RT with British champion Amelia Cebak helping her Tofauti Everyone Active teammate in the sprint and finishing fourth.

In the Junior Men’s race, the threatening black clouds held off dropping a load of rain on the race and the lovely warm day continued all afternoon. Two riders escaped up the road after only a couple of laps and the next time round, they were joined by around nine more riders. Three chasers including eventual winner Seb Grindley, gave it their all to catch the move and this they did, creating an all powerful breakaway.

As the race entered the final stages, the attacks came and went but it was the group of 11 left in the front move who sprinted up the climb with Seb Grindley lengths clear of his rivals winning the race from Joshua Jackson (Tofauti Everyone Active) and Max Hinds (Fensham Howes – MAS Design) making it a 1-3 for the host organising team. Matt Thompson, who was racing in Belgium the day before, was 4th.

Well done to the organising team and volunteers/officials/riders for an awesome day in North Yorkshire. Was awesome to chat to the young riders and also receive so much help from the officials. ta!
