East Cleveland Classic: Saint Piran Team

Updated earlier today is the startlist for the East Cleveland Classic on Sunday in Saltburn (North Yorkshire) and a stand out team is the Saint Piran squad of eight riders. The headline act is Alexandar Richardson, twice a winner of the Lincoln Grand Prix and a winner last weekend at the London Dynamo National B. It would be no surprise at all to see him win solo as he has done twice at Lincoln!

Dylan Westley has been there or thereabouts at the front of races in 2024 and was the winner of the Wally Gimber in 2024 and second in the Proper Northern Road Race at Capenway. Dylan Hicks meanwhile was the winner of the Under 23 National Series Stars of the South West road race last weekend after a race long breakaway (3 riders).

Rowan Baker, winner of the RCR Fatcreations National B, was second in the Stars of the South West road race (U23s) after he bridged across to his teammate and Rowan was third in the Wally Gimber and Portsdown Classic too. Bradley Symonds was third in a really tough Danum Trophy with two of the leading riders in the current British peloton, Damien Clayton and John Archibald. Bradley was also third on tough stage 3 of the Peaks Two Day.

Saint Piran also have two Australian riders with Rhys Robotham having a great record in Australia. Stand out rides in classics like third in ‘Grafton Inverell’ and second in the Tour of Tasmania. Then there’s the ‘special’ one, Joshua Ludman, who started his racing in my home town of Nowra in NSW, Australia. Josh had his first race in Britain at the Stars of the South West last weekend, finishing 15th with his teammate winner Dylan Hicks up the road along with Rowan Baker.

The standout result for Josh in 2024 is 6th in the Australian Under 23 Road Race championship. I also know the roads Josh trains on back home; mountainous! The final rider in the eight rider team line up is James McKay who had a good set of results in 2023.

Rowan Baker

With 139 riders expected to start at the moment, there are however many many other possible winners but the Saint Piran team riders have proved over and over this year, they know how to win races and so have to be one of the favourite teams for the victory on Sunday. DS for the team will be Tour of Yorkshire of winner, Chris Lawless. Some team eh!
