EAST CLEVELAND CLASSIC (SALTBURN)

SPRING RACING – EAST CLEVELAND CLASSIC (SALTBURN) — The first National Series Road Race for senior riders will be on March 17 (CiCLE Classic) for Women and Junior Men. Almost a month later will be an exciting new National Series event for Men and Women, the East Cleveland Classic at Saltburn by he Sea which hosted the British Road Race Championships in 2023.

This years race at Saltburn is lead by an organising team from Community Traffic Management Ltd who I see at a lot of races and have done for many a year. Good luck to Andy and team! The aim of the event is to continue to grow the area’s credentials in providing cycle racing at Elite level and to bring the races to the local communities, who are encouraged to decorate their towns and villages to show riders and visitors what is on offer in the East Cleveland area.

Looking at pictures from the Klondike years, the spectators have been out in force on the Saltburn climb prior to last years nationals. The East Cleveland course will be a tough circuit around 17 miles per lap. It will be slightly different to last years Championship course and different to the Klondike one which started/finished in Guisborough and was first held in 2017. (See the course map below for this years course)

Starting and finishing in Saltburn where it did last year, the East Cleveland Classic will see the women do 4 laps (68 miles) and the men 6 laps (103 miles), with each lap expected to take around 38 – 45 minutes (guesstomation). The race is not expected to be shown live (don’t think last years series was either?) so bring a picnic to enjoy in the time between the riders racing past!

The circuit starts and finishes in the awesome town of Saltburn (by the sea) and will take in Skelton, Guisborough, Charltons, Boosbeck, Lingdale and Brotton.
