Events: Mildenhall Cycling Mini-Fest
Mildenhall Cycling Club have released details of their annual cycling event which will take place on the August Bank-Holiday weekend.
“The Mildenhall Cycling Mini-Fest will take place on Sunday 25th August at its now traditional venue of West Row Village Hall, near Mildenhall and include the Fenland Flyer Gravel Time-Trial and the Cycle Jumble,” explained Mark Burchett, Chairman of the organisers, Mildenhall Cycling Club.
“Although last year’s Mini-Fest was regrettably cancelled due to a lack of entrants for the Fenland Flyer Gravel and it hadn’t been possible to find an organiser for the grass-track racing. But we are delighted to be able to say that the Grass-Track racing makes a welcome return to the line-up, around which the other events will be based.” he added.
There will be a full range of events for Seniors, Veterans, Ladies and Juveniles on the grass in the afternoon, with the track staging the start & finish of the gravel events in the morning.
The range of Gravel events has been expanded so that in addition to the main Seniors event, there will now be a separate Juveniles race for 13–16-year-olds, which will be totally off-road. Being over 10km it will provide a real test to the younger riders.
The riders, aged 16 and over in the Seniors event, will be racing individually against the clock over a 20km course of almost entirely off-road consisting of farm tracks, droves, by-ways and a small section of minor road. This is a unique type of course that only the Fens can offer.
Taking place all day will be the Cycle Jumble from a car boot around the grass-track, letting visitors and competitors to buy/sell from their vehicles, with sellers having to pre-book their pitch.
Camping may no longer be available on site, but West Row has three campsites and the organisers are very much encouraging new and regular visitors to previous events to still come and spend the weekend in Suffolk cycling and at the Mini-Fest.
Mildenhall Cycling Club will be providing light refreshments and drinks all day in the village hall and at lunchtime Jacket Potatoes with a variety of fillings.
Further details of the Mini-Fest will be available at www.mildenhallfestival.bike
