ENTRIES NEEDED: Severn Valley GP

Entries are still needed for the Severn Valley Grand Prix on Saturday September 23, after the return of this venerable race to the calendar more than 75 years after it was first run. The race over 103 kilometres of the popular Leighton circuit near Telford, is a shortened National B, which also incorporates the West Midlands regional road race trophies for Senior and Junior men. The race is open to riders from all regions.

“Following requests from the parents of junior riders in the region that we tweak the format so that first year juniors can contest the regional title alongside the second years, we’ve cut the distance compared to a full regional championship to enable this,” said joint organiser Simon Fielding, whose Wolverhampton Wheelers club is running the race with the support of the West Midlands Road Work Group.

The junior trophy for West Midlands was last awarded in 2021.

Entrants to date include the 2021 West Midlands champion Conor McGoldrick of Richardson’s-Trek, David Hird, winner of the final round of the BC under-23 series and local strongman Joe Brookes, winner of 3 of the four stages in the BikeStow 3-day.
