Crit Result: SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series 20

Week 20 of the SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series, by Giant Kendal, was a 25 lap handicap points race. A group of 3rd and 4th cats went off first and had a 1.5 minutes start, almost a full lap, before the 1st and 2nd cat group started. Even though the second group was larger, they made little impact on the gap at first and it was the 3rd & 4th cats who sprinted for the points on laps 5, 10, 15 and 20. The catch was made on lap 21, just in time for the double points on the final lap.

So it was two riders from the front group that took the first two places in the points competition with Archie Honeysett (Cog Set Papyrus Race Club) taking the win with 15 points from Alex Foster (Wolf Cycles) on 12 points then last lap, and overall race winner, George Hodgkinson (Ribble rechrg Race Team) in 3rd with 10 points. With the catch between the groups made George Hodkinson went for a long one, a full lap out, and held off the pack to win alone which received a special award from Gecko Studios – Big Bike Prints. Behind it was a tight sprint with Cameron Jeffers (Cycling Club Isle of Man) in 2nd from John Bardsley (Innovation Racing).

That’s it for the SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series 2023, where events have been organised by Cog Set Papyrus, Giant Kendal, Kent Valley RC, Barrow Central Wheelers, Kendal CC and Lune RCC, all under the coordination of the small SACA team, but we hope to be back in 2024 and may even still manage a Saturday Autumn Series yet.
