4th June 2023 saw the last round of the PDQ Race Series 2023 at Odd Down

Sadly for our final round the weather Gods were not kind and we had our first wet race for 2 years! This did hit the numbers that took to the start line sadly, but we still had good internal battles for the age categories and the Sprints competition. The leader of the series, Andy Edwards of FTP Racing, donned the Red Stimulus Sport leaders jersey for the final round, and had an unassailable lead. Steve Whitehurst of Reflex Racing was in Green as the leader in the Sprints competition, but this was going to be a tight battle with Frazer White only 3 points behind.

From the start the attacks were flying up the road, which made for a hard race with the decreased numbers. Gavin Lancaster of PDQ Cycle Coaching was attacking, along with Frazer White of Pontypool CC. A lot of work on the front of the bunch by various riders meant nothing was getting away.

The first prime was won by Frazer White, from Steve Whitehurst, making them now only 1 point apart.

The second prime was again won by Frazer White, Si Cox getting the 2nd place ahead of Steve Whitehurst, meaning that on the night Frazer had overhauled Steve’s lead to win the overall sprints competition of the series.

With the sprints competition now sown up Frazer seemed determined not to let anything get away and content to tap out a fast rhythm at the head of the bunch. And so it would come down to a bunch sprint and it was Steve Whitehurst who won the race on the night and taking 2nd place overall in the series, followed by Ashley Harvey of Stayer Racing, making his train trip from London worthwhile. 3rd on the night was Andy Edwards, who sealed his overall win of the series in style.

Tristan Stevens crossed the line in 5th and took 3rd place in the series and top PDQ rider. Rob Pears of Bath CC crossed the line in 7th place, taking 4th place overall in the series and winner of the 60-69 years category. Adrian Warren was 6th over the line and took 5th overall in the series. Dave Turton of Pronto Bikes crossed the line in 9th place, crucially 1 place ahead of Spencer Hardman of VC Bristol, so snatching 6th place overall and the winner of the 50-59 years category.

It’s been another fantastic series which we could not put on without our volunteers, officials and sponsors. There was a fantastic array of prizes, the annual shield and medals from Fantastic Finds, leaders and winners jersey from Stimulus Sports. Aerocoach, Pronto Bikes, 73 Degrees Bike Shop and Styrkr provided so many great prizes for all the categories. There is more to come next year as we make the series bigger and better!
