It was another amazing evening where the weather Gods were kind to us. The threat of rain was always there but it held off thankfully for a dry evening of racing. Going into this penultimate round, the series had Justin Hoy of Pronto Bike CC in the Red Stimulus Sport jersey, but sadly absent through illness was the sprints leader Frazer White, leaving his lead vulnerable.

The race was aggressive as ever with moves being fired off up the road all the time. Never far from the action was Cardiff Jif rider Andy Hoskins who has to be noted as the most aggressive rider of the night. We even had the red jersey out in front for a while as Justin tapped off the front, chased down hard by second in the series Tristan Stevens of PDQ Cycle Coaching, sensing the danger.

A break of five riders, Colin Parry of PDQ Cycle Coaching, Andy Edwards of FTP Racing, Andy Hoskins, Graeme Lackford of Team Tor 2000 and John Russell of Reflex Racing got away. By all accounts that contained some really strong riders and a good mix of teams represented, but they lacked representation of the Series Leader Pronto Bikes CC and so this was doomed to fail. And it was Nicolas Beale on the front of the bunch working hard to bring the break back for his team captain.

The first prime was won by Steven Whitehurst of Reflex Racing, helping his quest to snatch the lead in the Sprints competition. Justin Hoy crossed in 2nd place followed by Tristan Stevens and Adrian Warren of Pronto Bike CC.

There were splinter groups that managed to escape the bunch over the following laps but nothing was getting much distance, the bunch was marking everything. The second prime was won by Dave Turton of Pronto Bikes CC, followed by Jeremy Broughton of Reflex Racing, both denying Steven Whitehurst maximum points for the night who crossed the line 3rd ahead of Tristan Stevens. The 7 points scored on the night for Steve was enough to put him 3 points clear in the Sprints Competition and an exciting finale ahead in the final round of the series.

Another rider who was ever present in the moves and always near the front of the bunch was Tristan Stevens. Tristan formed a break with John Russell of Reflex Racing with 5 laps to go and they worked hard to try and stay away. Andy Hoskins bridged the gap to make it 3 riders. As the bell rang the breakaway were reeled back in and it was all set up for a bunch gallop. Sadly the series leader had health problems during the race and lost contact with the bunch with 5 laps to go so didn’t contest the win.

Going down the back straight, it was again Andy Hoskins lighting it up and escaping the bunch trying his trademark one lap flyer to try and win the race. He was caught with just 50m to go and managed to hold on for 7th place. Andy Edwards led home the chase and took the win ahead of Marco Panfilo of Reflex Racing and Dave Turton. And so the Series Leader jersey changes hands too and Andy Edwards will pull on the red jersey in the finale on 4th July.

The organisers want to wish Justin Hoy well and also Andy Hoskins who came down hard in a race on Friday evening.
