TEAM REPORT

The Wightlink-Wight Mountain CRT riders were in action again on the mainland this week. On Tuesday, team members Elvis Belton, Kev Chant, Chris Marsh and James Veal travelled to Goodwood to compete in Round 7 of the Summer Series. Despite the oppressive heat Chant had a brilliant race, getting in an early break and managing to stay away with a small group of riders to the finish. The race winner attacked on the last lap and held on until the end leaving Chant to fight it out in a 5-up sprint to the line. Chant powered home to take a well-deserved 2nd place.

In the 3rd Category race, the team worked well together. Belton and Veal got away in breaks which lasted several laps but were reeled in by the chasing pack on both occasions and at the bell the large field of riders was back together. A couple of riders managed to peel off at the chicane leaving the others to fight it out in a bunch sprint. Belton, who was led out by Veal, took some well-earned points and 7th place with Veal and Marsh finishing in the bunch.

Chant took to the road on Saturday, competing in a 10 mile time trial on the popular P881/10 A3 course, near Liphook. With over 80 class riders in the field vying for the win, Chant put in a strong performance in the hot and humid conditions and pulled out a PB, averaging over 33mph, to take 3rd place in an impressive time of 18.12.
