The 7th Women’s CiCLE Classic was held today on the rural roads around Melton Mowbray where the race finished with a small group sprinting it out from which Jess Finney won the classic race
7th Women’s CiCLE Classic
An exciting race for the Women which saw a small group clip off the front of the peloton on Somerberg first time, was joined by last weekend’s big winner Tammy Miller and they stayed well clear of the rest to the end where Jess Finney, winner of the Stockton GP National A, outsprinted her rivals to win the race which was a huge surprise but shouldn’t be. Awesome victory!
L-R: Monica Greenwood, Jess Finney and Flora Perkins
At 2pm, the riders in the Women’s race lined up in Melton Mowbray
First stop for me was Owston and the peloton was compact but there were a lot of stragglers already chasing to get back in touch
Next, Somerberg and the peloton was strung out and it was here the elastic broke and a group escaped including Jo Tindley who is forcing the pace up the Berg in Somerberg.
Shorty after a leading group of six came through Owston on one of two final loops of the village
The group was still clear with one finishing loop of the town of Melton Mowbray
And the winner is! Jess Finney wins the sprint for her biggest victory so far
Queen of the Bergs Jo Tindley sharing a laugh with legend Laura Trott
Jo also won a pork pie in the Melton Mowbray special sprint
