News: Jakob Fuglsang at Ruta del Sol

Jakob Fuglsang is at the start of the Ruta del Sol, also known as the Vuelta a Andalucia, in February. The Danish leader of Astana-Premier hopes to take the overall victory there from 17-21 February for the third year in a row. With Luis Léon Sánchez and Ion Izagirre, Fuglsang will get a strong team.


In addition to Fuglsang, Sánchez and Izagirre, the Astana-Premier Tech seven also consist of Alex Aranburu, Rodrigo Contreras, Fabio Felline and Harold Tejada. The Colombians Contreras and Tejada can be especially useful in the mountains. Aranburu hopes to score in the difficult arrivals in Andalusia.

Fuglsang will compete in the Spanish stage race against Daniel Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation), Mikel Landa and Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Victorious). Greg Van Avermaet (AG2R Citroën) has also confirmed his participation. Not much is known about the course of the Ruta del Sol, except that the queen stage on the third day involves six climbs.
