Chat: Zwift King Ian Bibby (Madison Genesis)

Ian Bibby of Madison Genesis has been making his name winning races on Zwift recently and one of those was in New York where Ian and a number of British riders were flown. Asked how it felt to go all that way for an ‘e-race’, Ian replied “It was brilliant”.

“It is a good time of the year for it as the bigger races don’t kick off for four weeks so I went straight there from the training camp and it was really good event, they put a lot into it. It was a pretty big event for them there and they seemed to get a lot of press in New York, so it was a good show with seven or eight riders live there”.

Asked what he gets out of it, Ian replied “I just enjoy doing it. The races are really good and Zwift have big plans for the future. The racing fits inside nicely with road racing and gives us something to do in the winter. I’m interested to see where it goes”.

As a rider who has won many of the biggest road races in Britain, I asked Ian how it compared to the road or crits and he replied “it is quite hard to compare. You can go extremely hard as you don’t have to worry about crashing or anything so the finishes are ridiculous. The last race (New York) was extremely hard and it was really warm for that too. You have some good riders not making the front groups so they are definitely tough events”.

Describing how it worked in New York, Ian explained “we all did a weigh in and they calibrated every machine so they were all identical. They are doing everything they can to make it as legitimate as possible especially for the live events and the champs. When we were in New York, they set it all up for you so it wasn’t like some one was bringing their own turbo”.

“Its high intensity stuff which fits in well between the long road rides and the weeks have gone fast. I’m looking forward to what they have next when the series finishes”.

What is next for Ian on the road, he says “I am trying to enter a load of local road races and trying to get some decent road stuff in as well as train hard around them.”

Good luck to Ian for the remainder of his Zwift races. After three wins, his season is off to a winning start already …
