News: Saint Piran In France

On a day when the tough undulating circuit started to give the top teams a chance to show their strength, Saint Piran’s riders got stuck in. The course chosen for the French National Championship three times had a bit of everything in the race with tough climbs, fast valley roads and a technical finish.

Saint Piran at the start of the day had two riders in the top twenty overall. The moves came thick and fast and the earlier nervousness of the opening flat stage had disappeared as the sharp short climbs distanced some riders. A move of eleven riders clipped away with only one main team being represented with three riders. The move set the pattern for the race as French teams exerted their control.

The gap grew to three minutes with both the Vendee U and Saint Piran teams applying pressure to reduce the deficit. Massive turns from Jake Alderman and Cameron Jeffers meant that Saint Piran had burnt two of its riders in the chase but a strong showing crucial for future race invites was always in the riders minds as a team objective along with stage results.

At 60 km, Steve Lampier attacked with five other riders and the deficit fell to 50 seconds but the race was over for the chasers with Lampier 12th whilst solid riding from Will Harper saw him 15th and Ollie Maxwell 24th giving a strong team showing.

Stage distance 125 km 3 hrs 07 min. 40 km hour average.
