Free Open Day: Boardman Performance Centre

The Boardman Performance Centre is having an open day on Sunday the 27th of January anytime between 10.30 to 16.30. The January event focusses on pre-season performance exploration, with the day’s activities designed to help any cyclists identify areas of opportunity for personal improvement and development for the season ahead.

What’s On?
Get a tour of the facility by the man himself; Chris Boardman and take a look behind the scenes at what it takes to build the UK’s first cycling-specific wind tunnel. Sit in on one of the many seminars or live demonstrations that will be running throughout the day, delivered by the Performance Centre experts covering health and fitness, position and technique and aerodynamics. We also have guest brands showcasing the latest products as well as answering any questions you have.

Learning ….

Learn about how physiological capacity determines performance at different intensities of exercise. Delve into the importance of a physiological threshold and what this means for training prescription vs. predictive models. An ideal session for all; from understanding what physiology is, through to why it is critical to the process of improving performance through training

A behind the scenes look at the unique capabilities of the Boardman Performance Centre wind tunnel and how they’re used to improve the rider’s aerodynamic performance. Learn more about the methods we employ to rapidly explore and identify potential aerodynamic gains for the rider. Gain insight into how we balance the need for scientific precision and accuracy with speed of investigation and real-world ride ability. An ideal session for those wanting to see what a wind tunnel session broadly involves, as well as those interested in the finer detail.

Optimising your contact points: the foot/shoe/pedal interface with Bianca Broadbent. How to get your purchases right the first time understand the variance in shoe anatomy (between brands), and what might work best for your foot type. Understanding the pros and cons of different pedal systems including road vs mountain bike. Consider the role of orthotics in optimising your foot’s contact with the bike

Physiology performance case study with with Dr Jamie Pringle & Leed Eddens. A guided tour through a rider’s data set and explanation of how their fitness and performance potential determine the approach to supporting an event or target – a look inside the Physiologist’s tool box and explanation of interventions best suited to help example cases.
