Canyon creates special edition Ultimate CF SLX for new 2018 World Champion Alejandro Valverde

New: Special Canyon Bike for Valverde
It is the crowning achievement of an incomparable career. Since 2003, Movistar Team-legend Alejandro Valverde has been collecting stage and overall victories in cycling’s biggest races from the Classics to the Grand Tours.
More than 170 first places stand in the impressive Palmarès of the 38-year-old Spaniard, who finally donned the rainbow stripes of the World Champion for the first time at this year’s race in Innsbruck.
With his overall victory at the 2009 Vuelta a España, a total of 16 stage wins across the Giro D’Italia (1), the Vuelta (11) and the Tour de France (4), two silver medals (2003, 2005) and four bronze medals (2006, 2012, 2013), 2014) at the Road World Championships, as well as overall victories at Liège-Bastogne-Liège (2006, 2008, 2015, 2017) and Flèche Wallonne (2006, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), “Bala” has now laid claim to his place in the Olympiad of the greatest cyclists of all time with his gold medal.
Riding the Canyon Ultimate, Alejandro Valverde has chosen a bike whose list of accolades reads no less impressively than that of the reigning World Champion himself.
In Innsbruck, on the longest World Championship course ever, the Ultimate crossed the finish line in the same position it found itself just a few weeks prior when Nairo Quintana won the 17th stage of the Tour de France.
At a mere 65 kilometres, the stage was the shortest in modern times, but with its finish at over 2,000 metres above sea level and two ‘Category 1’ and one ‘HC’ mountain classifications along the way, it was one of the toughest in Tour’s history.
The Ultimate is one of the most versatile bikes in the professional peloton and one of the most successful. Since its first pro races with Team Unibet in 2007, the Ultimate has taken over 200 first places.
Be it Philippe Gilbert’s victory on the 20th stage of the 2009 Giro D’Italia for Silence Lotto, André Greipel’s strong 2011 season for Omega Pharma Lotto with a stage victory at the Tour de France, Nairo Quintana’s dominance at the 2014 Giro D’Italia (Movistar Team), Alexander Kristoff’s victory at Milan-San Remo that the same year, or again Nairo Quintana with his top podium places at the Vuelta a España 2016 and Tirreno-Adriatico 2017.
The successes of the Ultimate speak for themselves.
In order to demonstrate how much Canyon appreciates the outstanding performances of Alejandro Valverde and the Ultimate, “Bala” will start the last UCI WorldTour race of the 2018 season on a custom World Champion-edition Ultimate. Three special-edition Ultimate CF SLX have been finished just in time for “Il Lombardia” so that the new World Champion can add yet another title to his own Palmerès and to that of his trusted bike.
Partners of this project: Campagnolo, Fizik, Continental, Look, Lizard Skin, Elite, Power2Max – thank you very much!
