Team News: Adam Yates 5th at Tirreno-Adriatico
Mitchelton-SCOTT rounded out a week of ups and downs at Tirreno-Adriatico that included two second places and a memorable stage five victory for Adam Yates and fifth overall with Michael Hepburn in sixth on the final stage individual time trial.

The Australian outfit finished with three riders in the top ten on today’s time trial with Hepburn in sixth followed by Jack Bauer in seventh and Luke Durbridge in eighth behind stage winner Rohan Dennis (BMC-Racing-Team). Giro d’Italia stage winner Caleb Ewan missed out on the sprint finishes but worked hard for the team alongside Slovenian champion Luka Mezgec with both riders now looking ahead to Milan-San Remo at the weekend.
Concluding Stage and The Race of Truth:
A beautiful day in San Benedetto del Tronto welcomed the first riders down the ramp for the last stage of this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico and the early time to beat was set by Rohan Dennis (BMC-Racing-Team) with 11:14” for the ten-kilometre course. Bauer, Durbridge and Hepburn all clocked fast times within 20 seconds of Dennis but couldn’t quite break even with the Australian national TT champion.
Light rain started to fall for the GC contenders who were last to roll down the ramp, but it made no difference to the outcome as Dennis took the stage win and race leader Kwiatkowski held on to seal the overall.

Adam Yates-Fifth Overall: “We started off with pretty big ambitions for this race and after the opening team time trial, where we finished second, it looked like we were on track but then the crash on stage two put us back to square one and we had to re-think our strategy. The change of objectives meant we had to look at going for the stage win, we came close on stage three when I got second, but it all came together on stage five in Filottrano with the stage win. That result put us back into the top ten overall.”
“Under the circumstances I think we can be happy, we’ve ended up coming back to fifth overall and that’s a really good result. The team have been great all week and especially on stage five, they did so much work to get me into that position I am just pleased that I could get the stage win.”

Head Sport director Matt White: “I think we proved this week that we were one of the strongest teams here, the guys produced some great team rides, we knew that Adam was in super form and the characteristics of the course really do suit him.”
“After the early misfortune our priority certainly became chasing a stage win and trying to make the most of the finishes that suited Adam and then that subsequently led us back into a good position on GC. The team rode solidly all week and they stayed focused despite a couple of setbacks and I am happy with our performance. This is our best ever result here on GC and all in all in bodes well for the big races that we’ve got coming up.”
