Transfer News: Tayler Wiles to Drops Cycling

Drops Cycling Team are delighted to announce the signing of American rider, Tayler Wiles. The 29-year-old joins the team after a year with United Healthcare Pro Cycling. Earlier this year, Tayler claimed 5th place overall at Thüringen Ladies Tour to add to her podium spot at Tour de Feminin and taking the overall win at the Tour of Gila.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining Drops Cycling Team for the 2018 season,” Tayler commented. “Having the opportunity to be a leader on the team and mentor some of the younger girls means a great deal to me. I’m really looking forward to being able to target specific races on the calendar and work with the team to produce some big results. I’ve always looked at Drops with great admiration because I could see how hard Bob and the others behind the scene worked to grow the program year on year and truly support women’s cycling from the ground up.”

“I have some big goals for the 2018 season starting with the hillier Spring Classics, time trials, and also a big focus on the stage races. I’m looking forward to being in a situation where I can confidently put my hand up for certain races and say, “my goal is to win this race, let’s make a plan and execute this together.” I had a lot of opportunities this year with my current team United Healthcare Pro Cycling and it has taught me so much about leadership, setting big goals, and working with your teammates who believe in you to achieve them. I am also really excited to help the others achieve their goals as there are some incredibly talented young riders on the team that I believe are the future of the sport.”

Tayler continued “So much of becoming a great cyclist involves taking risks, believing in yourself, and surrounding yourself with people who also believe in you, and I think my move to Drops for 2018 is a fantastic mix of all three.”

Wiles will bring extensive experience to the team after spending one year with Orica-AIS and three with the previous incarnation of Canyon-SRAM. Team Director, Bob Varney commented “I remember meeting Tayler for the first time in California in May 2016. She made some positive comments about our team which gave me confidence in what we were doing.

“To sign Tayler to the team for 2018, and to be discussing the next Olympic games with her is truly the stuff of Hollywood. We are all incredibly excited to be working with her, and are incredibly proud, and humbled, to have her trust. She will fit comfortably within the group, naturally sharing our core values of team work and mentoring the younger riders. Signing Tayler Wiles is a firm statement of intent of our ambition, we are all extremely excited to welcome her, and to start working with her.”

Tayler will meet her new teammates in December at the team’s first training camp ahead of the new season.
