Tour of Britain Chat: James Shaw

Last year, 21 year old James Shaw rode the Tour of Britain for Andre Greipel and has returned to the race even if his team leader has not.

Whilst the riders were lined up for the start this morning, we had a few minutes to see how he was and we started with his impression of the race so far.

“I think the race has been a lot harder than anyone expected. Everyone said this race was going to be a sprinters race being flat and with bunch sprints but with the level of the sprinters here, its shown that it is one of the highest levels in the world for the sprints this week”.

“It’s a home race for me so it would be nice to pull something out of the bag if it’s there so I’ll give it a bit of a bash and see what happens. I’ll try and keep it rubber side down today (stage 3), stay dry (it rained) if its possible and try not to lose time and see what happens.”

As well as Saturday, James says Sunday could be decisive as will the time trial but added there are stage wins on offer as well so he’ll see what happens. Good luck to James!
