News: Stage win for Jon Dibben

Dibben, who rode for Hargroves Cycles as a junior, set the pace early on with a time of 28:27 on the 24km course, beating Filippo Ganna’s (UAE Team Emirates) previous best time by 21 seconds, and faced an agonising wait in the hotseat as the general classification riders emerged.

However, only Brent Bookwalter (BMC Racing) came close to dethroning the 23 year old at Big Bear Lake, finishing seven seconds back, leaving Dibben to celebrate not only his first Team Sky win, but his maiden WorldTour victory too.

Tao Geoghegan Hart recorded an impressive time of 29:29 which elevated him to the top of the young rider classification, and this now puts him three seconds ahead of Sam Oomen (Team Sunweb) going into the final stage.

Dibben adds a WorldTour road stage win to the world title he won on the track

Jon Dibben: “When I crossed the line I didn’t know I’d set the fastest time for a couple of minutes,” he told TeamSky.com. “I was pretty happy with that because I knew a few people who were targeting the time trial had gone before me. But I thought [Andrew] Talansky and [Brent] Bookwalter would be up there, so I didn’t think I’d be in the hot seat for long.

“Then when I beat Vegard Stake Laengen, who I thought would go well, I got slightly nervous. I started to believe. Watching the last guys come in was stressful!”
