Team News: Bike Channel-Canyon Launch in London
Bike Channel Canyon, the new professional UK-based cycling team, was officially launched on Sunday afternoon at the London Bike Show
Alongside one of the custom-painted Canyon Aeroad CF SLX bikes they will ride this season, the 15-strong squad, who will compete at UCI Continental level, appeared on stage with one of the team’s leaders, Chris Opie, in suits supplied by official tailors Hawes & Curtis.
With an average age of just 24, this young all-British team, with world-renowned brands as sponsors, has ambitions to become the most dominant UCI Continental team in the UK, Europe and beyond.
Chris Opie, BIKE Channel Canyon lead-sprinter: “Launching BIKE Channel Canyon at The London Bike Show is awesome. Having the whole team on stage to present ourselves is a great feeling. The team’s worked really hard up to today and everyone’s loving being part of the team.
With our first race win at Perfs last weekend we’re off to a winning start. BIKE Channel Canyon are here to race fast and race aggressively. Having the world’s best bike brand behind us alongside a media broadcaster, we’re going to give our fans something really exciting to be part of.”
Chris and the experienced Rob Partridge
BIKE Channel Canyon will be based in the UK and led by Sports Director Tim Elverson – who previously held the same role at Pedal Heaven. In addition to Chris Opie, the team will feature: Dexter Gardias, Jack Pullar, Rory Townsend, Rob Partridge, George Atkins, James Lowsley-Williams, Sam Lowe, Harry Tanfield, Alex Richardson, u23’s Max Stedman, Joe Fry, Jake Womersley, Mitch Webber and Matt Nowell.
Canyon will supply the riders with their flagship models, offering a choice of the Aeroad CF SLX and Ultimate CF SLX. With Shimano on board as groupset suppliers, the team will ride the new Dura-Ace 9100, with wheels coming from British company, HUNT Wheels, using 50Carbon Wide Aero for races.

Tim Elverson (Sports Director): “It was fantastic to finally launch the team and meet some of our supporters. We are getting some great invites to some really good UCI races because I think the profile we have managed to construct for the team is starting to get noticed.
I’ve brought in Chris Opie as our lead sprinter. He has obviously come from a Pro Conti team where he was exceedingly successful. We are very fortunate he believes in the project. At the moment it is a three-year plan and he is on board to try to take that journey with us. The journey being to become the most successful Conti team in the UK and into the rest of the world.”
Filippo Ubaldini, Founder & CEO of BIKE Channel “BIKE Channel Canyon represents a new model of race cycling team. This winning partnership will bring fans an unparalleled experience in the world of pro-cycling, promoting the very essence of what it means to be a dedicated professional cyclist. We are delighted to announce this new UCI Continental team; another positive step in the channel’s continued development with excellent opportunity to collaborate with a brand that shares our core values. BIKE Channel viewers can look forward to exclusive documentaries, profiles and behind-the-scenes access, which will explore the lives of the riders in a unique and personal way.”
Nick Allen, UK Market Manager, Canyon – “Canyon is extremely excited to be co-title sponsor of the BIKE Channel Canyon race team. Our long-term investment in this new UCI Continental team is yet another way for us to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the professional sport of cycling and its growth within the United Kingdom and Ireland. We are confident that this will be a successful initiative, one which will serve to boost British professional road cycling and excite and inspire cycling fans around the country. With the victory at the season opening Perfs Pedal Race last weekend we are off to a flying start and the atmosphere around the team and our bikes in particular is astonishing.”
The team will also count Bikesoup, Le Col, Polar, Salice, Sidi, High5, Astute and Arundel as sponsors of the team – and Play for Change, as the official charity partner, which uses sport to empower children and their communities.
