UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Time Trial – British and ToC Qualifier Success

UCI Gran Fondo World Championships TT

In Perth, Australia, the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships for the time trial took place. There were 24 riders, across the UCI Masters age groups, representing Britain or who qualified from the Tour of Cambridgeshire. This event is the former UCI World Amateur Road Championships.

The time trial was held at Rottnest Island over a distance of 19.4 km. There were a number of former world champions defending titles and a few newcomers to the Masters ranks returning from retirement after elite cycling careers. The notable British results and qualifiers from ToC were:

Male 35-39yrs (winners speed 46kph) Paul Pardoe 7th

Female 35-39yrs (winners speed 41kph) Fiona Prew 4th

Female 45-49yrs (39.8kph) Karina Bowie 5th

Male 50-54yrs (winners speed 43.6kph) Des Woods (IRL) 3rd

Female 55-59yrs (winners speed 38.5kph) Andrea Nightingale 4th, Deborah John 5th

The 2017 UGFWC will be held in Albi in France. The top 25% of the number of starters in each UCI Masters age group at the Tour of Cambridgeshire will be invited to compete.
