The seventh races of this year’s NMRRL featured Groups A & C using the Dinnington circuit for the penultimate time.

The Group A race sprung into action on the 2nd of the 6 lap race with Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle CC) opening up a small advantage on Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) with the bunch not far behind at 10 seconds. A lap later and a 7 man group consisting of Ian Davenport, Rob Mitchell, Dan Stephenson, Jack Stephenson (all Out of the Saddle CC), Andy Nichols (Langsett Cycles RT), Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) & Ben Turner (TLI) opening up a gap on the rest of the field which would turn out to be the decisive move of the race.

With 2 laps to go, the lead had grown to over 2 minutes with only Etches left chasing by himself. Over the closing laps, any breakaway attempts were nullified and at the finish Jack Stephenson won the sprint ahead of Turner & Allen with Nichols, Dan Stephenson, Davenport & Mitchell taking 4th to 7th places in that order. Etches came in over 5 minutes down to take 8th.

The win enabled Stephenson to take the sole lead in the Group A Overall Standings with Turner moving into 2nd and Mitchell into 3rd. Previous co-leader Joe Elwood (Langsett Cycles RT), who was absent, dropped down into 4th.

Edward Davies (7 Hills CC) opened up a 15 second advantage on the bunch at the end of the 1st lap in the Group C race, but a lap later it was all back together. A bunch sprint was looking highly likely as it stayed that way over the remaining laps. However, at the finish, it was Davies once again who went on the attack and took a deserved win several lengths ahead of Mark Barnard (Out of the Saddle CC) who snatched 2nd place on the line from Ross Limbert (BBM Revolution) with John Catley (Barnsley Road Club) & Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) taking 4th & 5th places respectively.

Barnard’s 2nd place increased his lead in the Group C Overall Standings, with Catley & Limbert remaining in 2nd & 3rd places respectively and Davies moving into 4th.
