Team News: Maddi Campbell 3rd at Reservoir

TEAM PRESS RELEASE

WOMENSPODIUM

Maddi Campbell was again on the podium this weekend at the Alexandra Tour of Reservoir, following her third place 2 weeks ago in the Dave Peck Memorial.

Team Footon Velosport braved snow and freezing temperatures in stage one of the Alexandra tour of the Reservoir, second round of the Women’s National Series.

The 44km criterium style circuit was undulating and had some very rough road surfaces in places. The pace was high from the start including the neutral zone straight up a steep hill. The Team rode a well positioned race keeping themselves up the front.

The bell lap came around quickly and unfortunately Maddi Campbell was taken down in a crash within 3km to go down a fast decent so was given bunch time. Detta Guerrini fought hard for a 12th place in the bunch sprint. On Saturday evening, it was still not sure whether Maddi Campbell was able to restart the race the following day, because of the pains caused by her crash. Fortunately the following morning, Maddi was fit enough to start stage two. (continued after advert)

The final stage was held over a 115km relentless, hilly course, an extension of the intensity and profile they had to put up with on Saturday. The roads were designed to weaken the field up. Maddi rode an intelligent race bridging to a breakaway and then went solo off the front on the last lap. She was then joined with half a lap to go by a chasing break away of 11 riders.

They all worked well together to gain over two minutes on the peloton and Maddi Campbell rode herself to 5th place up the steep hill finish, coming away with 3rd place over all on the Tour’s general classification.
