Another feature question and answer, this time with Abi Van Twisk of the UCI team Drops cycling
Feature – Abi Van Twisk Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Abi: My season kicks off in March with the St Helens RR in the UK.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Abi: We have not yet got our full race calendars yet, but I would really like to target the Tour of Ardeche which is towards the end of the season. I am also excited to race abroad as much as possible to develop and learn from the best!
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Abi: As I am in the second group, we are starting to race properly a bit later in the season, so I will continue to get the long miles in whilst incorporating some shorter sharper efforts in the rides and sessions too. I am going to Mallorca for two weeks in February for the Drops training camp which I am really excited about!
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Abi: A sick silver puffer jacket.
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Abi: Go outside and ride – don’t stop because you just get colder and wetter, and if it gets torrential, just pretend you are in the shower. And always remember a rain cape!
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Abi: I think it would probably be the Tour de France (if there was a women’s version) because it is so iconic and pushes the body to the limits.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Abi: I do like a banana in my back pocket but if we are talking off the bike, I love Asian food.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Abi: I just stick it on shuffle and see what comes up.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Abi: Normal defo!
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016.
Abi: Trek Edmonda SLR with dura ace, in Miami green. It’s divine.
11. What’s your favourite piece of Santini/Prendas kit?
Abi: I love the colours on the kit and how well it is made! We got to go to the factory in Italy and see it being printed and hand stitched… pretty cool. My favourite item is probably the bib shorts because they are so comfy.
