VeloUK resumes the Q & A’s with Becky Womersley of the Women’s UCI team, Drops Cycling
Feature – Becky Womersley Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Becky: I will be starting my road season a little later due to being at Uni until the beginning of May. I will race before then when I can but my first race will be at Holme Valley 2 day. It’s a local race to me, so I am looking forward to racing on my training roads!
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Becky: I haven’t set myself any specific races as targets. Having the opportunity to experience UCI races this year is a great and I will be looking to move up on the results sheet as experience grows! The National champs is an obvious target. The following Wednesday after that is the Otley GP. I love this race and it’s a local one to me! I’d like to be on form for this!
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Becky: As I’m in my final year at Uni, I’m still building the miles up in preparation to start racing a little later than some of the girls on the team. I’ll be spending a week in Majorca with the rest of the Drops Cycling Team at the end of February. And hopefully get another week in the sun late March.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Becky: My leather skirt, I love it!
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Becky: I’m more scared of wind than rain. I’d go out until I was very cold. If it was a long ride, I’d possibly cut it short and top up with the turbo.
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Becky: I’m a Yorkshire girl, so the Tour of Yorkshire would be up there.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Becky: Brioche and Jam!
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Becky: To be honest I don’t have a favourite as I like a range of music. Something with a good beat or just the radio.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Becky: Normal brakes! I’m scared of what a disc brake could do if you were involved in a crash! I’ve seen one of my team mates faces after she crashed involving disc brakes!
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it? (include a pic or two if you have them!)
Becky: Trek Emonda SLR9 – Durace. I love the Miami Green Colour!
11. What’s the best piece of Santini/Prendas clothing?
Becky: That’s a tough question, I love it all! I think the shorts are my favourite part. I like black shorts and the stripes at the bottom are a nice touch!
