The experienced PMR@ToachimHouse rider Henry Latimer takes a minute to do the quickfire VeloUK question and answer
Feature – Henry Latimer Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Henry: Although I plan to race a couple of early circuit races, my road season proper will kick off with the Roy Thame Cup, a spring classic local to my hometown of Oxford so I will be hoping to start strongly there.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Henry: 2016 will be different to my previous two seasons with my primary aim shifting back to National B races, primarily the Central Divs and any race on the Great Milton Oxfordshire circuit! That said I would like to dip back into some National A stuff when the legs are good, and Lincoln is always a quiet favourite of mine.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Henry: It’s a mixture for me, efforts on the turbo and commuting to work during the week (mixed with some running), then longer steadier stuff at weekends. Although I am off to Calpe for two weeks at the end of this month for a big block of hard miles.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Henry: Probably my personalised number plate – LT14 MER – Although it seems I’m the only one who thinks anything of it!
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Henry: That fully depends on my current motivation! If it’s good, wrap up and smash it out in the rain! My tip would be wrap up warm, so long as your warm, then the wet doesn’t matter!
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Henry: The National B version of Paris-Roubaix!
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Henry: Post race KFC from the services (we all do it).
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Henry: Anything with a beat, I’m not fussy.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Henry: Normal any day, disc brakes are ugly ad ‘if it aint broke don’t fix it’
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it? (include a pic or two if you have them!)
Henry: I’ll be on our team issue Specialized Tarmac next year, favourite part of it has got to be my custom head-cap from Kapz. Love personalising my bikes.
