News – Cavendish headlines Revolution on Jan 2

Special GB v Team Wiggins Team Pursuit included in Round 5 Race Programme
Mark Cavendish and Laura Trott are amongst the star names confirmed for the next Round of the Revolution Series at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on 2nd January.

It will be Cavendish’s first competitive track race since September when he had to undergo surgery on his shoulder following a crash in the Tour of Britain. With Cavendish scheduled to race the Track World Cup in Hong Kong (16-17 January) the Revolution event will be an important test at the start of the Olympic year.

“The Revolution event on 2nd January is symbolic as the first track race in Olympic year” confirmed Great Britain Endurance Head Coach, Heiko Salzwedel. “It will be a good motivation for the riders at the start of 2016.”

Perhaps more importantly, the event will also provide the opportunity for the Great Britain coaches to test the progress of the Team Pursuit with a special Team Wiggins verses Great Britain race included in the evening programme.

“I’m pleased that the Revolution organisers have given us the opportunity to run a Team Pursuit with GB versus Team Wiggins” commented Salzwedel. “For the GB team including Mark Cavendish it will be a good test ahead of the Hong Kong World Cup. For the Team Wiggins riders we want to see if they are on the right track – it will be quite interesting and we will be using it as a performance assessment to see how everyone stands up at this point in our preparations.”

Cavendish will lead the Great Britain quartet alongside Ollie Wood, Matt Gibson and Chris Latham with the Team Wiggins line up including Andy Tennant, Steven Burke, Jon Dibben and Owain Doull.

These riders will also feature in the Revolution Elite Championship where Doull and Dibben will be looking to continue their winning form for Team Wiggins following victory at round 4 in Glasgow. They will come up against a strong Team Sky pairing of Elia Viviani and Pete Kennaugh as well as current Championship leaders, Team Pedalsure, who will be represented by Andy Tennant and Chris Latham.

A packed race programme will also feature elite male sprinting and women’s elite endurance races featuring Laura Trott, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker – click here to see the full race programme.

Tickets are still available for both the afternoon and evening sessions and can be purchased online at www.cyclingrevolution.com or by calling See Tickets on 0844 854 2016.

The event will be televised live on Eurosport 1 between 20:00 and 22:00 (21:00 to 23:00 CET).
