Matt Bottrill reveals 2016 goals are in triathlon but says he’ll still be racing domestic time trials
News – Change of focus for Bottrill in 2016
Matt, who will being triathlon in 2016 as well as domestic time trials, says “I will be stepping away from the racing the National champs for time trialing. The reason for this is basically I feel I won ever distance 10, 25, 50, 100, TT series, Champions of Champions, set the fastest times, competition records of 45:43 for 25 miles, 50 miles of 1:34:43 and the second fastest 10 miles of 17:40 (only bettered by Alex Dowestt 17:28).
“Add to that Premier Calenders and over 500 races most with course records and probably the most prestigous award of wining the Bidlake Memorial  So I feel that there is nothing left for me to achieve in UK domestic time trials. The records set are my own and I want to strive towards being successful in triathlon. But with the riders I coach, they can then carry on the success in the National champs.”
“For 2016, my goals are to find my way, and see how my body reacts to the change of going to triathlon. I am very much aiming to set all the fastest bike splits in all the races I ride and am very motivated to try and win.
Listed below are all the races I have pre-entered (more will be added once I see the calender) with my biggest aim being the ‘70.3’. My long term goal with ‘70.3’ will be to set the fastest bike split ever seen to see if I can adapt to all the changes. I’m prepared to travel for this if I think its possible.
Long term I want to make it to Kona (World Championships for Ironman) in the next four years while I’m still young enough to be competitive . But, again, I need to see if I can handle the training load needed.
Training is going really well to be honest. Running, I’m adapting to do and managed 10.6 miles yesterday which I’ve been building up towards. Swimming is hard but I’m learning all the time. But most of all, I’m the most motivated I’ve been for over a year. So I’m very keen to do well.
