A wet and miserable morning did not dampen the spirits of the 51 entrants in the PH-MAS VCUK Women’s Road Race at Selby. Ran over six laps on the well established Bishop’s Wood course no one seemed brave enough to make a solo move. There were a few smalls digs off the front but nothing of any real note. It wasn’t until the final lap when the ladies started the acceleration which put a number of riders in to the red zone.

With a large bunch taking the last left turn in to the finish straight, it was anyones race and even Amira Mellor (Paul Milnes Cycles) wasn’t confident in her abilities in such a long sprint. But she should have had more confidence in her own ability as she romped home for – what looks like on the photos – a comfortable win. A really well organised and published race by PH-MAS VCUK. It was good to see a full field of women racing.
