The Cheshire Classic Women’s Road Race, part of British Cycling’s National Women’s Series, will take place in Northwich on Sunday 26th April and promises to be the biggest yet.

Last year, the race which is organised by Weaver Valley Cycling Club, saw riders such as Olympic gold medallist and crowd favourite Laura Trott and Dame Sarah Storey tackle the course around Acton Bridge which features the notorious climb of “The Cliff” which the riders tackle 12 times.

Winner was Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Katie Archibald who took the honours, having rode away from the peloton on the final lap of the race and putting her name amongst previous winners such as Lizzie Armitstead and Nicole Cooke.

Taylor Wimpey, who is building the Winnington Village housing development near to the Cheshire Classic course and Wates Construction, who are completing the new Lifestyle Centre, return as sponsors alongside Delamere Dairy and Your Sports Therapist.

Race organiser Andy Wood commented: “2014’s race certainly was a classic. It was a fantastic advert for Women’s cycling, it was fast and furious and it was amazing to see so many people out cheering the riders. It’s a great day out and I would urge families to put the date in their diaries, it was really heart warming to see kids out waving flags wearing their Team Sky jerseys. I can’t say too much at the moment however we’ve had some initial entries and all I’ll say is, you do not want to miss it. It will be star-studded to say the least.”

With the race only a few months away, organisation of the race is in full swing. Andy urges any businesses who would like to get involved with the race to get in touch: “I’m looking for a couple businesses to join our amazing team of sponsors and help develop the race. We are not-for-profit, Weaver Valley CC organises the race for free and all money is invested back into the race such as paramedics and prize money”.

The Cheshire Classic, which has been organised by Northwich based Weaver Valley Cycling Club since the 1980s, has seen household names such as Olympic stars Dame Sarah Storey, Lizzie Armitstead and Nicole Cooke take part.

The dedicated website features full information on the race, together with an advice area with tips for beginners and interviews with star riders. Please visit www.cheshireclassic.co.uk for more details
