Florence Griffin produced the ride of the night in the born 2007 class, notching up her maiden victory in a very close sprint with breakaway partner Orry Lund. The duo escaped from a leading group of eight riders on the final lap and powered away to contest the finish where Griffin pipped Lund for the honours. Rio Kelly and Charlie Scarffe trailed in separately for third and fourth, with Jordan Carter edging out Cory Corkhill and Jemma Quayle in the fight for fifth. Ellana Skillan led Ed Coole in for eighth and Olivia Quayle came home alone to grab tenth. Abigail Clarke and Joseph Devereau completed the top twelve leader board.
Leading from start to finish, Emily Rewsin scored another good win for the girls in the novices race. Harry Wilson was a safe second ahead of a fragmented group consisting of Max Messenger, Jacob Gibb, Alessia D’Ottavio and Isabella Clarke, who crossed the line in that order. Dylan Honeyman ousted Sophie Roberts and Sam Wolstencroft in the tussle for seventh, while Daisy Taubman held off newcomer Saul Bawden in the rush for tenth. Isobel May overtook Erin Morgan on the finish straight to take 12th and first timer Elsie Horton did well to hold off Darcy Killey and Noah Trimble in the scrap for 14th.
In the born 2009 & later age group Eddie Dillon had the edge on Cameron Hounsell in the final push for the chequered flag. Zach Jones beat fellow chasers Stanley Kinnish and Kylan Murphy in the dash for the final place on the podium, with Jarno Davidson overcoming Grace Wolstencroft, Joseph Barker and Graihagh Morgan in the sprint for sixth. Florrie Thomas was a solid tenth and Harrison Skillan headed Jasmine Dillon over the line for 11th. Joshua Cross outran Joseph Dawkins, Lewis Cannon and Lula Kinnish in the battle for 13th, leaving Aedan Larkham in their wheel tracks to salvage 17th. Hugo Howland-Smith, Amelie Geldart and Harry Mackenzie completed the top twenty.
Alec Sorby rode clear of group of nine frontrunners to claim his eleventh success in the born 2008 category. T.J.Teare went off in pursuit but just failed to catch the fast moving leader and had to settle for the runners-up spot. Fearne Bregazzi came from behind to snatch third from fellow chasers Oliver Cooper, Freddie Griffin, Ollie Eyres and Edward Field, with George Kinnish edging out Ryan Nelson for eighth. Summer Peters got the better of George Partington, Ella Darnill and Lennon Moore to round off the top ten.
Completing a hat-trick of victories, Owen Collins was too quick for Drystan Sewell and Ivan Sorby in the gallop at the end of the born 2006 event. Leading girl Nicola Quaye was a lonely fourth and Connor Moughtin won the charge for fifth ahead of Tom Caine, Samuel Devereau and Rebecca Cooil. Tom Darnill was ninth and Imogen Cooper took the chasing group sprint for tenth.
Oliver Corkish bagged maximum points in the born 2005 class for the second week in succession, fending-off a strong challenge from Tyler Annis in the fight for the top spot. Chloe Dillon pipped Frank Kinnish for third and James Scott kept Ella Griffin and Callum Salisbury at bay to claim fifth.
Ben Boyle got the verdict over James Devereau, Nathan Slack, Annabel Corkill and Amy Quayle in the sprint that decided the outcome of the born 2004 three lapper, while Jonty Bregazzi forged ahead of Matthew Cooil, Emma Draper, Matthew Black and Shellan Leeming to pick up his third win of the series in the born 2003 & earlier grouping.
In the Under 10 racing bikes Ralf Holden broke free from an eight-strong leading group to grab the win. James Devereau was second, followed by Drystan Sewell, Ivan Sorby, Nathan Slack, Owen Collins, Cameron Dudley and Frank Kinnish. The girls’ prize went to Chloe Dillon in 11th position.
Aaron Lund won the Under 12 “droppies†in a bunch sprint with seven other riders. Jonty Bregazzi and Will Corkill were second and third, with Matthew Cooil, Tommy Skillicorn, Corrin Leeming, Matthew Black and top girl Shellan Leeming just behind in fourth to eighth places.
Competing in his final race before moving up to the junior ranks, Michael Moss grabbed his first ever victory in the Under 16 racing bikes. Conor Davies was second and series leader Matthew Draper third. Thomas Bostock, William Draper and Nathan Hinks rounded off the top six, while Tara Ferguson took the girls’ honours in ninth spot.
The League’s final overall positions will be revealed at the Prize Presentation in the Villa Marina on Sunday, 28th September. Reserve your tickets with Dot on tel. no.851691 or e-mail dottilbury@manx.net.
